The paper analyzed a lot of confusion on China's basic urban concepts such as "urban place" , "urban population" , "urban scale" and "urbanization" . It put forward that the primary scientific issue of urban research in China is the correctness of basic urban concepts and emphasized the importance of the standardization of those concepts.
