In the literature, the susceptibility of a material to magnesium stearate lubrication has been assumed to reflect its fragmentation propensity. In the work described here, it was found that this is not a general rule. The effect of magnesium stearate was shown to be dependent on a number of factors, including particle size (surface area), flowability and mechanism of consolidation.
