Hypertension is the leading risk factor for global mor-tality, accounting for roughly half of all cardiovascular events and nearly 11 million deaths per year. 1, 2 The rising prevalence and stubbornly poor control rates indicate that this crisis is likely only to worsen. A mere 1 in 5 adults worldwide have their high blood pressure (BP) successfully treated to below 140/90 mm Hg. While the most dismal statistics prevail across lower-income countries in Africa and South Asia, 1 there is also growing concern over worsening BP control in the United States. Latest estimates show that only 24% of hypertensive adults meet the more stringent BP goals of< 130/80 mm Hg. 2, 3
