Objective:Aimed to examine the risk factors for esophageal cancer (EC) and the interactions between family history and environmental factors in etiology of EC in Anxi county of Fujian Province. This will be useful for revealing the reason for the high incidence of EC in Anxi county. Methods:Using standardized questionnaire,1∶2 matched case-control study was performed on 185 cases of EC and 370 controls for age, gender, and residence-matched. Conditional logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors for EC and the interactions between family history and environmental factors. Results:①The risk factors of EC included tobacco smoking amount (OR=2.681), high salt diet (OR=4.463), intake of dried sweet potato (OR=4.891), the family history of EC(OR=4.675), tendency to self-restraint (OR=1.507). The protective factors of EC included conservation of food in refrigerator (OR=0.136) and dry place (OR=0.093), regular diet (OR=0.441), intake of fresh vegetables (OR=0.328),cereal (OR=0.583), and allium vegetables (OR=0.397). ②There were synergistic interactions between the family history of EC and high salt diet (OR=5.760), lack of intake of allium vegetables (OR=7.373), and consumption of over-hot tea (OR=8.396). Conclusion:The high incidence of EC in Anxi county is not only related with environmental factors but also related with family history of EC. The environmental factors and the family history have certain interactions in the development of EC.
