Various pairs of combinations of the beetles Calandra oryzae (small form), C. oryzae (large form) and Rhizopertha dominica were reared together at constant temps. and humidities and with the quantity of grain kept constant. In each exp. one sp. eventually became extinct. This was the sp. with the lower intrinsic rate of increase. The large form of C. oryzae was successful in the association - large and small forms when kept in maize at 29.1[degree]C. But in wheat where the large form had a lower intrinsic rate of increase than the small form the small form was successful. The small form of C. oryzae was the successful sp. in wheat at 29.1[degree]C in association with R. dominica. But at 32.3[degree]C when R. dominica had the higher intrinsic rate of increase, it was the successful sp.
