When benomyl was applied to the roots of flowering geranium and poinsettia plants fungicidal activity was detected in the leaves but not in the petals or bracts respectively. In fruiting tomato plants benomyl was transported mainly to the foliage and the conc. in fruit was 0.03-2% of that in the leaves. In bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) the conc. in fruit was 0.3-3% that in foliage. Stomata were absent from those organs which failed to accumulate the fungicide and it was concluded that transpiration governs the accumulation of benomyl systemically. The accumulation of fungicide at the leaf margins and apices resembled the movements of dye in leaf-shaped pieces of filter paper. Evidently its distribution in the plant may be explained on a physical basis.
