The author reports an unusual disorder in children, of which 14 cases have been met with over a 10‐year period. An acquired receptive aphasia was the outstanding symptom, usually following an epileptiform attack. Two typical cases are detailed and the common factors in all 14 cases are given. It is suggested that the disorder is a form of low‐grade selective encephalitis, possibly of the auto‐immune variety.
