INTRODUCTION For sport psychology practitioners working with youth coaches, and academics working on applied coaching science research, the coach-parent relationship is probably one of the most important areas to target expert resources. To this end, I was pleased to see such a focused article from Frank Smoll and colleagues that contained relevant, persuasive theoretical material alongside practical case-based suggestions for coaches (and indeed parents). There are many well-observed points to comment on, and I will focus on a number of key reinforcing and ‘additive’ points from my own experience of working with parents and coaches, and as a coach and sport psychologist.
