The principal properties of covalent glasses (high melt viscosity, low-temperature thermal anomalies, low-frequency Raman bands, magnetic features), as well as glass formation itself, are analyzed in terms of quasimolecular defects - the separate orbital-deficient bonds on the general covalent background. As a result, the junction of the main theories and experimental facts concerning glasses is obtained on a united microscopic basis. A numerical consideration is carried out for the example of amorphous (glassy and melt) selenium.
