The article focuses on a study which examined the evolution of the First Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS-1) of land snails (Stylommatophora) and freshwater snails (Basommatophora). Both the Stylommatophora and Basommatophora originated in the Mesozoic. The ITS-1 of the gastropods were consecutively divided into conserved and variable regions. The ITS-1 sequences considered in the study include Albinaria, Isabellaria, Bulinus and Stagnicola.
