Toxicological studies of chloroacetophenone on rats and alga are presented and discussed. The lowest observed adverse effect level(LOAEL)and no observed adverse effect level(NOAEL)for rats were 2.032 mg·kg-1 and 0.812 mg·kg-1,respectively.The medium effective concentration(96 h EC50)for alga(scenedesmus obliquus)was 0.360 mg·L-1.The environmentally safe threshold value of chloroacetophenone in waters is therefore 0.36μg·L-1,as required by the experimental results,EPA's methodology for deriving ambient water quality criteria for the protection of human health, and the EU's technical guidance document on risk assessment.
