Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) increases the production of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) in the mouse brain. IGF-I exerts beneficial effects on the cognitive function by increasing synaptic transmission and by inducing angiogenesis and neurogenesis in the hippocampus.
