The authors present a potential field model of the average static field in the magnetosheath. The model has five parameters, the standoff distance to the bow shock, the stand off distance to the magnetopause, and the components of the interplanetary magnetic field. The magnetosheath is modeled as a paraboloid of rotation about the sun-earth axis. This model provides analytic solutions of use in studying particle dynamics in the magnetosheath.
