This paper reports the PIXE-PIGE data obtained at AGLAE accelerator on 135 glass beads discovered at Sarata Monteoru and Bratei, Romania, dated to 6th-7th centuries AD.The stylistically similar glass beads were excavated in two cemeteries situated 300 km apart, attributed to different populations. The Sarata Monteoru beads were found in incineration graves assigned to a Slavic population, while the Bratei beads were discovered in inhumation tombs pertaining to a Gepidic population.PIXE-PIGE data indicated that most glass beads were manufactured in Roman tradition, sharing a resembling chemistry. The compositional patterns of several items suggest glass recycling practices. A single bead was manufactured exclusively using plant ashes, pleading for its Oriental provenance. PIXE data provided clues about the glass chromophores. This archaeometric study demonstrates the connections between the populations living in the Carpathian area during the Migration Period with the Roman zones of influence.
