Method of Water Quality Improvement for Urban Lake Based on Concentrated and Distributed Water Diverting

Flow augmentation and water renewal via diverting clean water into an urban lake is an effective means for improving lake water quality.However,concentrated water diverting that is usually employed has the disadvantage of creating dead water areas due to the bays in the lake,which reduces the effectiveness of water quality improvement.To solve this problem,a procedure of concentrated water diverting at relatively higher flow-rate combined with dis-tributed one at relatively lower flow-rate was presented in this paper.The determination of places,flow rates,facilities,direction and velocity of water diverting,outflow length,elevation,and the operation were discussed.The method of hydrodynamics,contamination transportation mathematical model and particle tracing were applied synthetically.In comparison of the alternatives of engineering arrangement and their operation programs based on the data of the flow fields and concentration fields,an optimal alternative and procedure has been identified.Test in a real urban lake shows that,the proposed procedure of concentrated water diverting combined with distributed one can significantly increase the effectiveness of water quality improvement.
