Figure D3 (a) Correction coefficient CP and (b) Cv with θ= 26.6◦ for step heightss1= 4.4 cm, s2= 8.9 cm, and chute widthsB1= 178.8 cm, B2= 111.1 cm, all model dimensions uniform flow regions. The effect of S= s/dc is not prominent for these data, as the scatter is significant (Fig. D2). Note that all experimental runs were in the skimming flow regime except for two where transition flow occurred (marked in Fig. D2). The data result in Vave/Vw= 1.189±0.084, 1.117±0.048, and 1.072±0.041 (mean±standard deviation) for θ= 26.6◦, 30◦, and 50◦, respectively. In contrast to the authors’ findings, the velocity ratio decreases with increasing chute angle. For a given θ, the ratio decreases with increasing S in analogy to the authors. With values up to 1.3, the velocity ratios of the discussers’ data are considerably higher than from the authors’ Fig. 9. Note that Wood (1985) proposed Vave/Vw= 1.20 for the smooth spillway of the Aviemore Dam with θ= 45◦.
