Many Americans worship at the church of sports. Services are held for each personal belief, whether it be football, racing, golf, or diving. One is thrilled by the splendor of the occasion and the beauty of the surroundings. On the walls hang the trappings and accounts praising past heroes. The offering freely asked is cheerfully given. The renditions of the colorfully clothed musicians stirs one to action. Dramatically delivered is the powerful message of overcoming the adversary. Here each is brought to his own style of fulfillment. As one turns to leave, one muses," It is good to have been here, for I have felt the power."(Cheska, 1972)Socialized man has long used the collective gathering to express and preserve sociocultural concepts. One such concept is power which encompasses one's capacity to accomplish something and thereby obtain control. As individuals and groups, people have struggled for control and their success is measured in status, goods, services, resources, and value. This cultural code of power is expressed and communicated
