The reader of the title might be surprised to find Meister Eckhart being brought together with Jalal al-Din Rumi in a comparison of their ‘practical mysticism’. Not only was there a strong resistance of some scholars of seeing Eckhart amongst mystics (one only needs to think of the Bochum school), but more particularly because almost all readers of Eckhart will agree that his practical mysticism is by far less prominent than his intellectual one. Saeed Zarrabi-Zadeh knows it. He spells the problems out clearly, weighs and explains why he reads Eckhart as a mystic and underlines that it is precisely the intellectual nature of Eckhart’s mysticism that allowed for a contrasting comparison with Rumi.
