Amifostine is an organic thiophosphate prodrug used for cytoprotection against toxic effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. In a European prospective study of SJS/TEN, six patients were suspected to have SJS/TEN associated with amifostine. Our findings suggest that the risk of life-threatening cutaneous adverse reactions to amifostine could be significantly increased. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.
