Polymerization of some monomers adsorbed on inorganic materials such as silica gel, metal oxides, and metal sulfates has been investigated previously (1). However, little is known of the polymerization or the copolymerization of monomers adsorbed on or reacted with metal surfaces. On the other hand, the reaction of metal compounds such as organic titanates and silicates with metal surfaces had already been tried in order to improve adhesion to metal plates, but the reaction failed since these compounds have very low reactivity with metal surfaces. The authors have reported that triazine thiols react easily with metal surfaces to give fims with excellent adhesion and ability to protect the surfaces against corrosion (2-4). In this article, the preparation of copper plates with polymerizable vinyl groups by this reaction is described. The polymerization and the graft copolymerization of vinyl groups on copper plates were investigated in order to protect the copper surface against corrosion.
