To evaluate associations of various selected risk indicators with reduction limb defects, data on 453 [human] cases of reduction limb defects and their time-area matched pair controls from the Finnish Registry of Congenital Malformations was studied. A multivariate analysis of the earlier reported associations was performed. This analysis showed that the following risk indicators were associated with the defects: high birth order, threatened abortion, low placental weight, low birth weight, previous malformations in the family, influenza during early pregnancy, other infectious diseases and mother''s alcohol consumption during pregnancy.
