Central nervous action determines the cyclic sequence of mating behavior in the Teleogryllus commodus ♂ and the patterns can appear predictably without external stimulation. However, the copulatory act triggers the onset of the cycle and peripheral factors, such as the presence of a ♀, may modify performance and duration of some of the patterns. The highly flexible capability of the central nervous system is thereby acknowledged.
