METHODSThirty-two mongrel dogs weighing 20-30 kg were used for these experiments: eight were studied for collection of normal data, eight underwent excision and reimplantation of the left lung, eight were organ donors and had a left pneumonectomy, eight had a left pneumonectomy and received a left lung allograft. The surgical procedures involved have been described in a previous report (4). Of the eight dogs with left lung autograft, four survived.
