People use academic discussion forums to exchange and enhance their knowledge. Sometimes these discussions remain inconclusive, incomplete and vague. To get more academic benefit out of these discussion forums, we have developed models to find the quality of affirmation in these discussions, and a mechanism for identifying points of intervention where the conversation can be nudged towards agreement. [1, 2]. This is our report on a tool called “Discussion Forum Analyzer” which implements these models, finding the affirmation score of a conversation in a discussion forum and identifying points of intervention. Although the tool has been integrated to a platform called “Precision Learning for Enterprises” which is based on the “Navigated Learning” paradigm [3], it is generic enough to be utilized as a library in any academic discussion forum. Apart from the current usage, the data we get from this discussion forum analyzer could be further utilized as a part of a learner profile.
