The effect of 2 different release rates and timings of releases of Amblyseius califamicus (McGregor) on Tetranychus urticae Koch on strawberry was investigated in southern California in 1973-74. The two spotted spider mite populations were significantly reduced in the release plots. The mean numbers of two spotted spider mites in the release plots were significantly different from the check, but not from each other, from May 8 through the end of the study on June 19. The mean fruit yields (g/plant) and fruit size in the release plots also were significantly different from the check but not from each other. Early releases of the predator at 10/plant gave slightly better results than did the other release rates and timing of releases investigated.
