SPIROMASTTX a new monotypic genus of the Gymnoascaceae is described with S. warcupii as the single sp. The morphological development and other diagnostic characteristics are given. The new genus is characterized by a unique type of delicate peridial appendage which is curved like a scimitar. The many appendages give the mature ascocarp the appearance of a ball of twine or of spaghetti. However, the appendages are never completely coiled as in Arthroderma, Shanorella, Nannizzia and the 2 spp. of Arachniotus with coiled appendages.
