Water plays a vital role in both the environment and human life. Assessment of the impact of climate variability on water resources is an essential activity because we consider water as a strategic raw material. The quantitative characteristics of renewable water resources of a region or river basin can be determined by two approaches: by using meteorological data or by using river run-off observations. We have evaluated climatic and hydrological variables in selected river basins in Eastern Slovakia. We have compared the time series of observed variables over a period of about 60 years. The results of the work are the plots of observed variables, which we have evaluated. We have also been working on the using of water in selected Slovak river basins, namely by water abstraction and water discharge. The impact of climate variability on water resources in eastern Slovakia is minimal.
