In this paper, we investigate the qualitative structures of a Ricker competition model near a degenerate fixed point with eigenvalues . Firstly, by the Takens's theorem, we asymptotically embed a reflection of the normal form in the flow of a vector field. Secondly, using the blowing-up method, we investigate the local phase portraits of the vector field near a degenerate equilibrium without the linear part. Lastly, applying the conjugacy between the model and the reflection of the time-one mapping of the vector field, we obtain the qualitative structures of this model. So, an open problem proposed in [S. Elaydi and R. Luís, Open problems in some competition models, J. Difference Equ. Appl. 17(12) (2011) 1873–1877] is answered.
