Publisher Summary
This chapter focuses on granulocyte-specific antinuclear antibodies (GS-ANA). GS-ANA in rheumatoid arthritis and Felty's syndrome are mainly type G immunoglobulin antibodies with a tendency to engage in circulating and synovial fluid immune complexes––these are produced locally in the rheumatoid synovium indicating a relationship to pathogenesis. Some evidences suggest role for GS-ANA in pathogenesis, such as the higher prevalence and levels found in active disease and the presence of GS-ANA in local and circulating immune complexes.
