As I consider the progress in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation that we have witnessed over my 25+ year career in our field, I cannot help but be impressed with how far we have come, but also how far we have to go. A measure of both our success and our challenge is provided in this BBMT supplement.This is the sixth annual Education Book for the BMT Tandem Meetings. We present here superb, concise reviews of the state of the art in transplantation biology and medicine prepared by presenters at the ASBMT/CIBMTR cmbined annual meeting in Orlando, Florida. These reviews complement the state-of-the-art presentations at the meeting and provide a benchmark to measure our progress. They cover a spectrum of interests from disorders of ribosomal biogenesis, to practical aspects of management of GVHD and graft failure, to health services research. We anticipate that they will be useful resources for clinicians, investigators, fellows, nurses, pharmacists, and mid-level practitioners.
