MAUREEN DENNIS aureen Dennis came to child neuropsychology from a back-M ground in both animal physiological and child clinical psychology. Currently the recipient of a Research Associateship from the Ontario Mental Health Foundation, she is a member of the Research Institute of the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and holds a cross-appointment as an associate professor in the Department of Behavioural Science within the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Toronto. Dennis has researched how early damage to the brain affects the development of later cognitive abilities, and has published this research in edited books and in neuropsychology and developmental psychology journals. Asking empirical questions of clinical data, she uses the procedures of psycholinguistics and cognitive psychology to analyze the language of children with various forms of developmental brain damage. In her professional practice as a pediatric neuropsychologist, she is consulted by legal firms in Canada and the United States about the effects on cognitive functions of head injury and other trauma in children involved in personal injury litigation. Dennis has been supported in her research and writing by the Ontario Mental Health Foundation and the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services. She has served on the Board of Governors of the International Neuropsychological Society, and on the editorial boards of several neuropsychology journals. In recognition of her midcareer research achievements, she was the recipient in 1986 of the first Benton Award of the International Neuropsychological Society.
