Determined the unidimensionality of spontaneous, food, and water dominance orders in 8 groups of 4 Long-Evans male hooded rats during development. Spontaneous dominance did not correlate with either food or water dominance when measured either independently or in any temporal sequence, or when measured in juveniles or adults. Food and water dominance orders were correlated. All 3 dominance orders were reliable; in decreasing order of reliability were food, water, and spontaneous dominance. No dominance order appears to be the basis for any other dominance order; testing sequence did not affect the reliability of any dominance order. None of the dominance orders showed any linear increase or decrease in reliability during development.(18 ref.)(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
