The purpose of this note is to extend the Sullivan construction [19] of" unstable" Adams operations on BU (n) to cover all coiTIDact connected semi-simple Lie groups, including the exceptional lie groups. The application in this paper is to obtain mod P splittinr; s of the simple Lie groups, but the result also provides a complement to the work of Hubbuck [8] studying the nonexistence of certain of classifying spaces.
