Currently there are three manufacturers with dual-energy X-ray absorpiometer (DXA) machines operating in Britain: Hologic, Lunar and Norland. They have similar specifications, but different methods of deriving the two energy beams, different techniques of calibration and different ways of analyzing the scans to select regions of interest (ROI). It seemed important to assess the comparability of results from the three manufacturers. This study uses models to make comparisons of spine and whole body scans.
