It is now well recognized that the climate of the Earth results from a complex of interactions among the atmosphere, ocean, land surface, ecosystem, and human activity. With the continuing growth of population and the concomitant increases in agriculture, industry, and consumption of natural resources, the human influences on Earth are profound and far-reaching.
