A report of 5 experiments determining some of the conditions which influence the rate of a response whose reinforcement is delayed. The findings show that in 3 of 4 pigeons the rate of pecking declined to near zero with a 60-sec. delay; the 4th slowed down under 120-sec. delays. With a gradual increase in delays, 3 of 4 pigeons showed normal rates of response under 60 sec. delays."
