Dracula smaug, a proposed new Ecuadorian species in the Pleurothallidinae (Orchidaceae) is described. A few plants of a new species of Dracula Luer where found in a cloud forest in northwestern Ecuador, close to Colombia. History and notes on this new species and the genus Dracula are presented.
