Hence, if we regard m'as the mass of the electron of charge-e, we find that the order of magnitude of the ratio of the electrostatic to the gravitational force between a proton and electron is that of yN, namely, 1039• It is well known that this result is empirically correct. The fact that the inertia of an electron is not regarded as entirely due to its electric charge makes no difference to this order of magnitude.
