Cation radicals of enamines, generated by the oxidation with Ce(IV) compounds, react with electron-rich olefins to give the addition products. The formal alpha-alkylation of formylacetate is realized by the reaction of 3-(1-pyrrolidinyl)propenoate and olefins by the use of tetrabutylammonium cerium(IV) nitrate as an oxidant.
