Forty-six loci were added to the list of loci thought to map to mouse Chromosome (Chr) 7 (MMU-7) since the Committee's first report (Rinchik et al. 1991a). This year, the Committee attempted to expand on the basic framework of maps and data summaries presented in the first report. Goals for the second report can be summarized as follows:(1) to add new loci to the consensus interspecific backcross (IB) map proposed in the first report while continuing to be ultraconservative in assigning gene order along the length of the chromosome;(2) to add more information to the tabular list of loci thought to map to MMU-7 in a standardized format agreed upon at the Fifth Workshop;(3) to provide maps derived from the mapping ofloci in recombinant inbred (RI) strains while taking special care not to assume a particular" consensus" gene order;(4) to provide an update on the genetic and physical mapping of the Fes-Hbb interval; and (5) to introduce a discussion on mapping of the distal region of the chromosome.
