Near-infrared andIRASphotometry is discussed for 13 G and K stars in the south galactic cap. Five of them show a strong flux excess at 12μm as would be expected from dust shells emitting at temperatures of several hundred Kelvin. One of them (XY Tau) has previously been classified as a 206-d Mira, but the new observations suggest it is actually a variable F or G star. The most likely explanation is that the original classification was wrong and that it is in fact a pre-main-sequence star. The other four stars are either in very unusual evolutionary states or they are binary systems. The presence of long-term variations in the near-infrared flux of the flare star CC Eri is reported. The colors are redder when the star is fainter, and the variations might be associated with the star spot cycle.
