Argues that the view that political terrorism is symptomatic of psychopathology rests on questionable methodological grounds and may dangerously obscure the sources and nature of this increasingly important phenomena. A personal pathway model of terrorism suggests that societal structures may be systematically producing and nurturing such activity. Factors that may produce the terrorism climate include the demise of the family unit; the increasingly competitive struggle to win socially rewarding roles; the failure of peaceful forms of the political process; and the growing pervasiveness and efficiency of security and law enforcement concerns.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved)
