RESULTSThe experimental data are plotted on Figure 6, which presents the individual points as a plot of pressure in pounds per square inch versus mole per cent carbon dioxide for each of the three isotherms: 32,—4, and—40 F. There is a reverse curvature apparentin the vapor lines of the three isotherms. This phenomenon increases as the tempera-ture decreases. Poettman andKatz (8) noted a similar condition at the higher temperatures. Figures 7 and 8 represent a cross plot of the data in which temperature is plotted against compositionalong isobars for the liquid and vapor phases. The two plots have been extended by the data of Poettman and Katz (8) and the vapor pressure data of carbon dioxide and propane (7). All the data are in good agreement. The equilibrium ratios (y/x) for carbon dioxide and propane are plotted in Figure 9. The ratios for carbon dioxide have been extrapolated to K= 1 at the vapor pressure of carbon dioxide. No attempt was made to extrapolate theratios for i Present address, Humble Oil and Refining Co., Baytown, Tex.
