The author reflects on the review conducted by Staiger et al on a common problem amongst addiction treatment clients that show that alcohol use hinders recovery from drug use. The author opines that three concerns need to be addressed which are: the researchers' alcohol use from the primary addiction in the review, whether the level of measurement in the reviews adequately answer questions, and whether clinicians must conceptualize alcohol use as a risk factor.
