In the F1 hybrids Aegilops biuncialis X A. variabilis (genomes CuCuMbMb X CuCUSvSv) and A. ovata X A-variabilis (genomes CUCUM[degree]M[degree] X CUCUSVSV) 9 or 10 bivalents were found. Seven of these presumably represented pairing between chromosomes of the common Cu genome and 2 or 3 bivalents resulted from pairing between Sv and M homeologous chromosomes. The occurrence of 2 trivalents to many cells is explained as the result of 2 transloca-tions presumably between Cu and Sv chromosomes of A. variabilis. Some intervarietal hybrid combinations exhibited also a quadrivalent, i.e., pairing between one of the trivalents and one additional chromosome. The data suggest the possibility of recombination between chromosomes of the differential genomes.
