The number of commercial blends has skyrocketed in the past several years and the trend toward blending—in preference to the creation of new polymer structures—has been firmly established. This paper analyzes the reasons for this growth; the types of commercial products, their manufacturer, and their applications; the patent situation; and possible future directions of the industry.
