Sir—Ilona Rjasanowski and colleagues (Feb 14, p 497) 1 present data suggesting that a signficant excess of daughters is born to mothers (but not fathers) with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). The investigators write,“to our knowledge, there have been no previoius reports of eclampsia, cyclosporin neurotoxicity, and hypertensive encephalopathy. Of the 15 patients reported by Hinchey and colleagues, 3 12 had abrupt increases in blood pressure and eight of these had some impairment of renal function.
