This book explores the extent to which labour markets are divided on the basis of sex. It is based on detailed data for 41 countries or areas, and investigates how occupational segregation by sex differs internationally, how this has been changing over the past two decades and the factors contributing to it. It is suggested that occupational segregation by sex is extensive in all countries, and that whilst this is an important topic for researchers and policy makers, it is both impossible to completely eliminate and is not always a bad thing for women and good for men.
