MethodWe examined 25 healthy young persons (between 19 and 31 years; their average age was 23 years), and 25 old individuals (between 70 and 83; average age being 76 years) of both sexes. The aged suffered from no haematological, liver or splenic disease; the majority of them were in an ophthalmic hospital with cataract, the others were being treated for arteriosclerosis and emphysema.
