The authors describe 5 patients in whom spinal cord lesions appeared following selective angiography of the bronchial and intercostal arteries. In all cases, paresis of one or both lower limbs was evident after injection of contrast material into the fifth right intercostal artery. The anatomical factor probably responsible for this complication was a radiculomedullary artery which emerged from the fifth right intercostal artery to join the midthoracic section of the spinal cord. The immediate cause of the damage was the toxicity of the contrast medium.
